Accessibility Week: how accessible do Dutch people find payment services?

Published on:

This week is Accessibility Week . To mark the occasion, the Dutch Payments Association is publishing an infographic on the digitalisation of payments and the accessibility of payment services. People in the Netherlands pay 99% of their bills digitally and also pay mainly electronically at the checkout. More than eight in ten respondents are satisfied with the current payments system.

People in vulnerable situations are slightly less satisfied. Banks offer a range of solutions to support them, because everyone should be able to continue managing their day-to-day banking.

Digitalisation can also make banking much easier for some people in vulnerable situations. People with limited mobility no longer need to visit a bank branch, but can arrange everything from home using video banking, online banking and mobile banking. Digitalisation has made it much easier for informal carers to help people who need care with payments and other banking matters. Rings and wristwatches that allow people to make secure contactless payments of up to €50 without entering a PIN can be very useful for older people with dementia.

Banks offer support and solutions to people who still encounter barriers in their day-to-day banking. Read what banks are doing to support customers in vulnerable situations with their day-to-day banking.
