Record Christmas rush for card payments

On Tuesday 23 December, two days before Christmas, the Netherlands recorded its busiest ever day for card payments at the point of sale. Approximately 14,560,000 debit and credit card transactions were made. The previous record was set a year earlier, on Monday 23 December 2013, with approximately 13,270,000 card payments.

From the Saturday before Christmas to Christmas Day, approximately the following numbers of debit and credit card transactions were recorded in 2014 and 2013:
