Fifth anniversary of sponsored chair in Financial Information Security

The Dutch Payments Association and Radboud University in Nijmegen are celebrating the fifth anniversary of the chair in Financial Information Security this year.

The Dutch Payments Association sponsors this chair in Radboud University’s Digital Security group. It has been held by Professor Eric Verheul since 2014.

The Dutch Payments Association considers progress in cybersecurity vital to the reliability and security of financial services and transactions as digitalisation increases. By sponsoring this chair, the Association therefore supports research into digital vulnerabilities and security innovations for the financial sector.

Collaboration and knowledge exchange

The chair in Financial Information Security focuses on collaboration and knowledge exchange between financial cybersecurity experts and cybersecurity research and teaching at Radboud University. Academic research can, for example, help identify and secure vulnerabilities in digital financial services and processes at an early stage. Topics include the risks and challenges posed by quantum computers, innovations in Hardware Security Modules and innovations in digital identity documents.

In turn, the financial sector contributes practical knowledge and experience for students through internships and guest lectures. The benefits go both ways: the financial sector makes a valuable contribution to the development of cybersecurity in the Netherlands while helping to ensure a steady supply of cybersecurity experts within its own ranks.

Continuation secured through 2021

In 2018, the continuation of the chair was secured through 2021. By sponsoring the chair, the Dutch Payments Association helps keep electronic payments safe and reliable in the future.
