‘Don’t be fooled online’: Dutch awareness campaign
The Dutch government is launching Laat je niet interneppen (roughly ‘Don’t be fooled online’), a Dutch-language awareness campaign. The campaign warns against fraudsters and scammers who pretend to represent a well-known company or organisation. By email, text message, chat message or phone, they put you under pressure to act immediately: transfer money, log in or share information. The campaign website (in Dutch) offers practical tips and advice(opens in new window) on how to recognise this type of fraud and what you can do to protect yourself.

Fraudsters may also impersonate the Dutch Payments Association, claiming that you urgently need to take action involving your bank, debit card or another payment method. An unsolicited message from the Dutch Payments Association is always fake: we never send unsolicited digital messages to anyone, and we never call anyone. The Dutch Payments Association has no access to anyone else’s payment or banking information.
