Annual Conference 2026
On Thursday, May 21, the annual conference of the Dutch Payments Association took place at ING Cedar in Amsterdam. Under the theme “The show must go on”, the focus was on the availability of payments systems. In a world marked by increasing geopolitical tensions, digital threats, and a growing dependence on payment infrastructure, the sector discussed how to ensure that payments systems remain accessible and resilient.
“The show must go on”
The continuity of payments often seems self-evident to consumers and merchants, but behind that self-evidence lies a complex interplay of technology, agreements, infrastructure, and collaboration.
Chairperson Donatello Piras kicked off the afternoon and guided attendees through a program that examined availability from various perspectives.
Threats, dependencies, and international lessons
Tim Bosch, CEO of Birdwatcher Group, opened the program with a presentation on developments impacting critical processes. He demonstrated how important it is to recognize threats early, take scenarios seriously, and remain prepared as an industry for disruptions.
Next, Kirsi Klepp, Head of Card Payments, Infrastructure, and Security at Finance Finland, provided an international perspective. Finland’s history and location mean that the country has been preparing for threats—which are new to countries like the Netherlands—for longer and more intensively.
Transaction security in practice
Frank Breedijk, CISO at Schuberg Philis, demonstrated three types of unavailability along with the corresponding cloud solution that can be configured to address them.
After the break
After the break, Donatello Piras spoke with Peggy Corstens, CEO of Geldmaat. For Geldmaat, availability means both online availability and the physical availability of ATMs. The conversation covered topics including ATM skimming.
The program concluded with a panel discussion on the resilience and future-proofing of payments. Siri Mauer of ABN AMRO, Bart de Haan of Revolut, and Suzan van Eeten of Rabobank discussed this topic.
Finally, Chair Gottfried Leibbrandt shared his closing remarks on the afternoon, after which guests could network while enjoying snacks and drinks.
