All euro payments in Europe are based on a single uniform European payment market (SEPA or Single Euro Payments Area)
Due to SEPA national payment systems and infrastructures in this area comply with the same European standards. In accordance with the European Regulation for SEPA, providers and users are also obliged to use the same technical requirements for payment transactions in euros. The most prominent example of this is International Bank Account Numbers (IBAN).
De European Payments Council monitors per SEPA Payment scheme (Credit Transfer, Instant Payments, Direct Debit Core and Direct Debit B2B) which banks participate. The names of these banks are published in the 'Registers of Participants'.
