Successful rollout of new debit card payment method

Since 1 January 2012, debit card payments at every point of sale in the Netherlands have been processed using the new chip-based method. This brought the successful introductory campaign to a close. A short video marked this milestone.

The new debit card payment method uses the more secure EMV chip on the debit card instead of the magnetic stripe. Now that the magnetic stripe has been permanently taken out of use for payments in the Netherlands, the introductory campaign has also ended. From now on, we will use the EMV chip everywhere, as if we had never done anything else. The video presents a short overview of the highlights from the rollout.
