Smartphone purchases rise sharply

Online shopping by smartphone continued to grow in popularity in 2016. The number of online purchases made using a smartphone rose by no less than 68% compared with 2015. This is shown by figures from the eCommerce Payment Monitor, a study of payment methods in the Netherlands conducted by GfK in partnership with iDEAL and Thuiswinkel.org.

Popular mobile commerce categories

Smartphones are used relatively frequently to buy media and entertainment (13%), telecom products and services (11%) and fashion (10%). Growth in the number of smartphone purchases was highest in the toys (+268%) and fashion (+214%) categories.
