Piet Mallekoote appointed to ECB Digital Euro Market Advisory Group
The ECB has appointed Piet Mallekoote as one of the thirty members of the Digital Euro Market Advisory Group. Mallekoote was Managing Director of the Dutch Payments Association until early 2021. Together with the other members of the advisory group, he will advise Eurosystem participants on the design and introduction of a possible digital euro.

The members of the Digital Euro Market Advisory Group are all professionals with a long track record and extensive experience in the euro area’s retail payments market. Piet Mallekoote previously served as Director of Payments at De Nederlandsche Bank, Managing Director of Currence (scheme owner of iDEAL, iDIN, Incassomachtigen, Acceptgiro, Chipknip and PIN) and Managing Director of the Dutch Payments Association, before retiring earlier this year.

“I am proud that my predecessor has been invited by the ECB to join this important advisory group,” says Gijs Boudewijn, the Dutch Payments Association’s current Managing Director. “Piet witnessed the creation of the euro from the very beginning and can now contribute to making our common European currency more efficient and meaningful through digitalisation.”
