One million online identifications with iDIN

iDIN – the banks’ shared identification and login service – has been used one million times since its market launch just over a year ago. iDIN’s growth is expected to accelerate further as banks begin supporting the service in their mobile banking apps.

iDIN enables bank customers to log in or identify themselves online easily and securely, for example with the Dutch Tax and Customs Administration, insurers, mortgage and credit providers, telecom companies, online marketplaces and digital signing services. Anyone who uses online banking can use iDIN immediately on any website that offers it.

Passwords a major source of frustration

Market research agency Perspective asked more than 2,000 people in the Netherlands about their experiences with protecting their data online. Three quarters of respondents said they disliked having to devise a new password every time they registered online with a company or institution. Four in ten said this led them to use insecure passwords.
