Next Phase of iDEAL Migration to Wero Begins in October

Published on:

EPI, Dutch banks, and payment service providers have jointly mapped out the roadmap for the next phase of the migration from iDEAL to Wero.

By October 2026, all Dutch banks will be connected to Wero and ready for the next phase of the migration. From that point on, iDEAL|Wero payments will gradually transition to the Wero infrastructure. For consumers, their regular online payments with Wero will remain the same as with iDEAL|Wero: they will continue to pay through their own bank and will not need to make any changes with their bank. For banks, payment service providers, and online retailers, however, a lot will change. In some cases, they will need to make significant adjustments to their systems and business processes. Together, they will ensure that consumers are not affected by these changes.

The banks and payment service providers share the common goal of completing the migration from iDEAL to Wero by December 31, 2027, at the latest.

The full migration from iDEAL|Wero to Wero in the Netherlands will benefit from close consultation and cooperation between EPI Company, merchants, consumers, PSPs and regulators. The Dutch Payments Association is committed to support EPI Company, our members and our stakeholders in a smooth and harmonious transition. Amongst others, we leverage our strong relations with special interest groups for a productive dialogue on Wero accessibility and for communicating effectively with these interest groups on the migration.
