iDEAL QR code pilot launched

During a pilot with the Dutch Heart Foundation from 17 to 23 April, it was possible to pay using an iDEAL QR code for the first time.

iDEAL app

A special app was developed for scanning iDEAL QR codes. The iDEAL app allowed users to scan QR codes securely and make an iDEAL payment. It was easy, secure and trusted, just as people had come to expect from iDEAL.

When using the app, users could select their preferred bank for the payment. That bank’s mobile banking app would open when the iDEAL payment was confirmed. The bank’s mobile banking app therefore had to be installed on the user’s phone.

How did an iDEAL QR code payment work during Heart Week?

During Heart Week from 17 to 23 April, people with an Android phone or iPhone could donate money using the iDEAL QR code on the Dutch Heart Foundation’s collection box. A donation could also be made using the iDEAL QR code on this page.

The following short instructions showed how easy it was to donate using an iDEAL QR code on an iPhone or Android phone. A video about the iDEAL QR code was also available.

  1. Make sure your bank’s mobile banking app is already installed on your phone.
  2. Download the free iDEAL app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store* to your phone.
  3. Scan the iDEAL QR code shown alongside these instructions.
  4. Choose the amount you wish to donate on the Dutch Heart Foundation’s web page.
  5. Choose the bank through which you wish to pay on the payment page.
  6. Confirm the iDEAL donation in your own bank’s mobile banking app.
  7. Finally, return to the Dutch Heart Foundation’s confirmation page.

*In the Apple App Store, users searched for “ideal”. In the Google Play Store, they used the search term “idealqr”.
