At around 2.30 pm, they made 609 debit card payments per second
Hot off the press: in the seven days up to midnight on Wednesday 5 December, approximately 99 million debit card payments were made, totalling around €2.47 billion. This was 15 per cent more than in the same period last year and 12 per cent more than in an ordinary week in October 2018.
In the seven days up to and including Tuesday 4 December, approximately 12 million iDEAL payments were made, totalling more than €991 million. The number of iDEAL payments was 33 per cent higher than last year and 12 per cent higher than in a normal week in October 2018.
Using debit cards and iDEAL together, Sinterklaas made 111 million payments in seven days, totalling €3.46 billion.
