First 500 Vierdaagse kisses donated to Ronald McDonald House

On Saturday 16 July, Leo de Bever of Rabobank Nijmegen presented a cheque on behalf of Pinnen, ja graag for the first 500 Vierdaagse kisses to Erny Frowijn of Ronald McDonald House Nijmegen. Walkers and visitors to the Vierdaagse festivities can buy a kiss for a sick child from special kiss teams. To make paying for the kisses quick, easy and secure, the kiss teams are equipped with mobile contactless payment terminals.

Erny Frowijn: “Anyone who supports Ronald McDonald House can donate a kiss. In doing so, you help provide a ‘home away from home’ for families who desperately need it. You can, of course, donate more kisses too. The kiss teams will be active at various locations around the city throughout the week. The mobile payment terminals make it even easier for people to donate.”

Payments to the kiss teams can be made contactlessly. This is quick and easy, as no PIN is required for contactless payments of up to and including €25. Photographers will be out during the Vierdaagse festivities to capture the people donating kisses. The photos will be available to view and share the following day at www.pin.nl/zoen (in Dutch).

Contactless payments

The organisers of the Vierdaagse festivities are pleased that the kiss teams have contactless payment terminals. Business manager Mark Prinsen: “As organisers, we have a strong preference for contactless payments. It is one of the twelve commandments in our programme booklet for good reason, and the ‘Pay contactlessly too’ logo can be seen throughout the city. The more people pay by debit card, the less cash is in circulation. That makes the festivities much safer. And it is faster too.”

More and more people in the Netherlands are paying contactlessly (in Dutch) by briefly holding their debit card or mobile phone against the payment terminal. In June, there were more than 50 million contactless payments (in Dutch) in a single month for the first time. The number of payment terminals also rose sharply this month, to 163,000. Contactless payments can therefore be made in more and more places.
