iDEAL owner EPI launches WERO payment app in Germany
EPI (European Payments Initiative) is launching in Germany its WERO mobile payment app for mutual payments between users. German WERO users can now pay directly to each other’s payment accounts via this so-called digital ‘wallet’ (digital wallet on a smartphone).

EPI is also the Brussels parent company of the Dutch online payment method iDEAL. The WERO wallet allows customers of Germany’s Sparkassen, Volksbanken and Raiffeisenbanken to pay each other instantly, similar to payment requests in the mobile apps of many Dutch banks and of Tikkie.
Over the next six months, customers of more and more banks in Germany, Belgium and France will be able to use WERO to make quick mobile payments to each other, including across borders.
In the longer term, iDEAL will be merged with WERO, when the WERO wallet will also become suitable for paying in online shops, at the counter and for subscriptions, for example.
