Dutch Payments Association becomes lead partner of Alert Online

Published on:

The Dutch Payments Association uses awareness campaigns, among other measures, to improve payment security. The recent mass-media campaign “Hang up! Click away! Call your bank!” is a good example. The Association also promotes knowledge-sharing and cooperation with organisations inside and outside the financial sector. In 2014, it became a lead partner of Alert Online. This two-week cybersecurity campaign, organised by the Ministry of Security and Justice, raises awareness among consumers and businesses in the Netherlands about online risks and the steps they can take themselves.

Alert Online was opened on Monday 27 October by Minister Opstelten of the Ministry of Security and Justice. The minister was very impressed by the “Hang up! Click away! Call your bank!” campaign.

On Tuesday 28 October, the Dutch Payments Association organised a breakfast session for organisations outside the financial services sector. Managing Director Piet Mallekoote opened the well-attended event as host. Ben van Zuylen of de Volksbank, Michel van Leeuwen of the Ministry of Security and Justice, and Gijs Boudewijn, Marco Doeland and Michael Samson of the Dutch Payments Association then explained how cooperation between banks can help tackle online crime.

Further activities will take place during the Alert Online campaign. For more information, visit www.alertonline.nl (in Dutch)(opens in new window) .
