Donors give more generously by debit card

During fundraising collections, donors give more generously by debit card than in cash. The average donation to a collection box that accepts only cash is €1.50, compared with €3.75 for an electronic collection box.

The most generous donors live in the municipality of The Hague, where the average debit card donation is €7. They are followed by donors in Bussum, who give an average of €6.70, and Aalsmeer, where the average is €5.65. These are interim research results from eleven charitable funds, which took 500 electronic collection boxes to 50 municipalities between September and December 2017.
