CONNECT

CONNECT is the central reporting and information platform provided by the Dutch Payments Association, for plannerd maintenance and unplanned disruptions in the infrastructure for card payments (with debit and credit cards) and A2A payments (with credit transfers and direct debits). Through CONNECT, payment service providers keep each other and merchants informed of interruptions, so they can quickly take fallback measures.

Why CONNECT?

Unforeseen breakdowns and planned maintenance in the card payment and account-to-account payment infrastructures can occur anywhere, at POS terminals, in data communication, in transaction processing and at cardholders’ and merchants’ banks. Quick and effective response to disruptions is possible when they can be reported centrally and shared with all relevant payment service providers (PSPs) and merchants.

In CONNECT, the PSP that has a malfunction or is going to perform maintenance reports the event. That information is immediately available to all participants in CONNECT and everyone can take action to deal with the disruption.

Who can use CONNECT?

Any organisation operating in the Dutch infrastructures for either card or A2A payments can participate in CONNECT. These include terminal suppliers, telecom providers, transaction processors and banks. Merchants can join to only receive notifications.

Reporting in CONNECT

As a participant, you yourself report maintenance, incidents and disruptions (planned and unplanned) for your own systems in CONNECT. By doing so, you contribute to quick coordination with other participants and to a stable and reliable payments infrastructure.

Consulting CONNECT

Everyone in CONNECT receives a notification of a new report via e-mail, so you are immediately informed of planned and unplanned interruptions.

CONNECT for merchants

Merchants (businesses and other organisations) can also connect to CONNECT. As a merchant, you will receive notifications about interruptions from other participants that are relevant to you.

A merchant who detects a disruption should report this to the relevant service provider (e.g. the terminal supplier, telecom provider or bank). That service provider can report the disruption in CONNECT.
