High-tech collection box enables contactless donations
No fewer than 21 recognised charities have joined forces to develop a new collection box. From 3 September, people in 50 municipalities across the Netherlands will also be able to donate to collectors by contactless or chip-and-PIN debit card payment.

Contactless payments are becoming increasingly popular. There were only 8.3 million contactless transactions in 2014, rising to 630 million in 2016. With 679 million contactless payments in the first seven months of this year, that figure had already been comfortably exceeded. The number of debit card payments is also growing: last year, for the first time, there were more debit card payments than cash payments in the Netherlands.
