Firm steps taken for accessible payment services for consumers
On 27 May 2025, the Accessible Banking Programme presented the joint ‘Plan of Action for Intensifying Accessible Banking 2025 and furtherundefined ‘ at the Social Consultation on Payments (MOB). The MOB is confident that the additional efforts will have a positive impact on the accessibility of banking and payment services. This plan, developed in cooperation with banks, interest groups, Geldmaat, Alliantie Digitaal Samenleven, the Dutch Banking Association (NVB) and Betaalvereniging Nederland, focuses on improving the accessibility of banking and payment services. The plan is based on three pillars: individual approach of banks and Geldmaat, complementary collective approach and continuous improvement through effectiveness measurements.

Banks and Geldmaat have promised that basic banking services and contact with banks will be safe and accessible. They aim to make banking as easy as possible and offer different ways to do banking. For customers who struggle with banking, they will work with community organisations to better support them. This cooperation will continue at least until 2030, with more and more organisations getting involved to help people.
The Help Nearby programme ensures that help with banking matters is available locally. Together with interest groups, we organise meetings, support helpers and explain a lot about the help offered by the banks and Geldmaat. We also do this during the ‘Digital Participation Week’ in November. With advertisements in national and regional magazines, for example, we publicise this more. This is how we build together to organise help in the neighbourhood. The goal is that this is set up by 2030 and can continue independently from then on, so that everyone has access to safe and accessible banking services.
