Quantum computers and cybersecurity: “Get started!”

Current widely used cryptographic security standards are expected to become vulnerable to quantum computers before 2050. Secure and reliable electronic payments depend heavily on those standards.

The Dutch Payments Association, the Dutch Banking Association , Dutch banks, Quantum.Amsterdam , Centrum Wiskunde & Informatica and several other public and private organisations are therefore already working together to prepare for the future challenges posed by quantum computers.
Last month, in March 2021, the Dutch Payments Association and Quantum.Amsterdam organised an online symposium with ten experts in quantum computers and post-quantum cryptography, and around 200 participants professionally involved in preparing their organisations for the quantum era. One of the symposium’s main conclusions was: “Get started!”
