Easy mobile payments for everyone on King’s Day with iDEAL

This year, visitors to King’s Day street markets can pay for items using convenient payment apps. New iDEAL options allow individuals to pay each other quickly, securely and without cash using their smartphones.

Payment service provider Online Betaalplatform has developed a smart Vrijmarkt App for private sellers. Buyers scan a secure iDEAL QR code with the iDEAL app, recognisable by the iDEAL logo in the centre, and pay using their own bank’s familiar mobile app.

Convenient mobile payment apps

Thanks to iDEAL, individuals can also pay each other reliably using ABN AMRO’s Tikkie and Rabobank’s Ipayou. Tikkie lets users send someone a payment request through WhatsApp. The payer does not need to use Tikkie and can pay through an iDEAL link. Ipayou lets users pay to a mobile number. The beneficiary receives an SMS about the payment and does not need to use the app. Both apps can also be used by customers of banks other than ABN AMRO and Rabobank.

Sowdan recently launched a mobile payment app that uses iDEAL to make quick payments or send payment requests. Sowdan works with payment accounts at almost all Dutch banks.

Customers of ING and bunq can send an iDEAL payment request from their regular banking app so buyers can pay for items. Buyers receive the payment request by email, SMS, WhatsApp or iMessage and complete the payment using their own bank’s mobile app, even if they use a bank other than ING or bunq.

All these payment apps are convenient and secure, allowing people to buy and sell at street markets without carrying cash. Savvy traders no longer need to queue at an ATM or keep change on hand on King’s Day.
