The Dutch Payments Association has launched a follow-up pilot for iDEAL QR (in Dutch) together with ticket provider TicketFlow and the CM Group . Payments with iDEAL QR through the iDEAL app will be tested during the World Four-in-Hand Driving Championships at Outdoor Brabant, taking place in Breda from 31 August to 4 September. The follow-up pilot will test various iDEAL QR use cases to provide greater insight into user experiences.

Various iDEAL QR payment options at Outdoor Brabant

Paying with iDEAL QR is simple. The free iDEAL app on a smartphone scans a QR code directly from a screen, poster or advertisement. The user then pays securely, quickly and easily through their own bank’s mobile app.

iDEAL QR payments will be used at several points in the customer journey. TicketFlow will use iDEAL QR codes for the online payment of admission tickets. Advertisements containing an iDEAL QR code will allow visitors to buy an event ticket directly with the iDEAL app. During the event, admission to the Outdoor Brabant grounds and Gemaco merchandise can be paid for with iDEAL QR.

More pilot participants

Several organisations are testing iDEAL QR payments during the follow-up pilot.
Professional football organisation NAC , online shop Megekko , and charities Justdiggit and the Eye Care Foundation are now also using iDEAL QR as a payment method. Their use cases range from transferring an iDEAL payment from a web browser to a smartphone to scanning an iDEAL QR code on a poster.

Consumers in the Netherlands are accustomed to electronic payments

With various participants and applications in the follow-up pilot, the Dutch Payments Association expects iDEAL QR to gain an increasingly positive response in the Netherlands. Recent research commissioned by the Association among one thousand people found that people in the Netherlands feel positive about electronic payments and consider them easy and fast.

Debit card payments, online banking and iDEAL are now firmly established, while many consumers are also familiar with newer developments such as contactless payments. The Dutch Payments Association expects iDEAL QR to join them.

The first pilot took place during the Dutch Heart Foundation’s national collection week (in Dutch) . Donations using the iDEAL QR code on collection boxes were received enthusiastically.

iDEAL QR app

In partnership with mobile service provider CM Group, the Dutch Payments Association developed both the iDEAL app and the platform on which QR codes are created and checked. The Dutch Payments Association and CM Group combine the strong iDEAL payment brand with CM’s mobile expertise. iDEAL is the most frequently used online payment method in the Netherlands.

The app is available for Android and iOS and can be downloaded from app stores.
