Arjan Bol on Radio 5 about deferred card payments

Bert on 5′ spoke to Arjan Bol about deferred card payments (offline card payments) when the data connection of the payment terminal fails. What are deferred card payments, for which retailers are they suitable, and how can you offer other digital payments to customers during emergencies?

When regular card payments are temporarily unavailable due to a data connection failure, ‘deferred card payments’ (‘offline card payments’) can offer a solution for some retailers. Other retailers can keep an extra payment terminal at hand for emergencies, connected to an alternative payment processor via a different telecom provider. If the entire payments infrastructure for (non-European) card payments fails, there are fallback options via the separate (entirely European) A2A payments infrastructure, for example via iDEAL | Wero.

On the PIN.NL website (in Dutch), we provide an overview of all fallback options for card payment failures that are currently available, with an interactive selection tool for choosing the most suitable fallback options for various kinds of retailers.
