Payments to illegal gambling providers blocked

The Netherlands Gambling Authority and several payment service providers have signed a cooperation agreement. Under the agreement, payments between consumers and providers of illegal online gambling will be blocked.

Earlier this year, payment service providers Mollie BV, DialXS BV and Sisow BV joined the agreement. These companies facilitate online payments for products and services. On 22 September 2014, Currence (the owner of iDEAL), payment company Mastercard and the members of the Dutch Payments Association, including Dutch banks, also joined. On 6 October 2014, acquirer PaySquare SE, which is responsible for processing and settling debit card transactions, joined the agreement as well.

By joining the agreement, the payment service providers are fulfilling their social responsibility and signalling that they do not want to provide payment services to illegal gambling operators.
