Transfer of address data to business recipients to end by 1 January 2019
Published on:
In view of the relevant privacy laws and regulations, banks will stop passing payers’ address and place-of-residence details (AW data) to business recipients for account-to-account transfers (SEPA Credit Transfers).

Banks can currently provide this AW data selectively to businesses, provided that it is used solely for reconciliation. One important reason for ending this practice is the increase in complaints about AW data being misused for purposes other than reconciliation.
Several other options are now available for effective and efficient payment reconciliation.
Examples of alternatives that allow payments to be reconciled correctly without AW data include:
- (Automatic) direct debit
- iDEAL
- (iDEAL) QR code
- Payment request with an (iDEAL) payment link
- Payment reference (without an Acceptgiro)
- Standard (structured) Payment Instruction
If you have any questions, please contact your bank.
