Payments Association roadmap updated for new European payments developments
This year, Betaalvereniging Nederland again updated its roadmap for the next three years based on future developments in the European payments system. In this new roadmap, we pay attention to developments around cash, after all, legislation is forthcoming in the Netherlands and Europe and new dossiers such as eIDAS and Digital Direct Debit (Digitaal Incassomachtigen).

2025 is also the real year of Instant Payments. Indeed, payment service providers will be obliged – in addition to receiving – to be able to send Instant Payments from October 2025.
We pay extra attention to our strategic ambition to show more clearly as an organisation in various areas how we (jointly) make a positive contribution to the Dutch payments system. We call this ‘leading by example’.
In general, the Payments Association focuses on the efficiency, safety, reliability and accessibility of the collective payment system in the Netherlands. The new roadmap sets out our course through 2027, with the main current themes and key points based on the joint insights and expectations of the Payments Association and its members.
