The amount spent using these payment methods rose by more than 11%. Around 8.1 billion transactions were made last year, with a total value of almost \u20ac282 billion. Transaction volume rose by more than 18%. The lifting of coronavirus restrictions in physical shops is likely to have contributed to this catch-up, although the number of point-of-sale payments remained below its 2019 level. Last December, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.betaalvereniging.nl\/en\/news\/one-billion-cardless-debit-card-payments-smartphones-wearables\/\">30% of all debit card payments were cardless<\/a>, an increase of 50% compared with a year earlier. Only one in ten debit card payments now involves inserting a physical debit card into a payment terminal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-pinbetalingen-in-het-ov-sterk-in-opmars\">Debit card payments on public transport rising sharply<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The number of debit card payments on buses and trams, at metro stations and at railway stations increased by 65% in 2022. This sharp rise is partly due to the introduction of checking in and out of public transport using debit and credit cards (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ovpay.nl\/en\/how-it-works\">OVpay <span class=\"icon inline-block ml-1 w-[0.875em]\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><svg aria-hidden=\"true\" xmlns=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/2000\/svg\" width=\"32\" height=\"32\" fill=\"#000000\" viewBox=\"0 0 256 256\"><path d=\"M228,104a12,12,0,0,1-24,0V69l-59.51,59.51a12,12,0,0,1-17-17L187,52H152a12,12,0,0,1,0-24h64a12,12,0,0,1,12,12Zm-44,24a12,12,0,0,0-12,12v64H52V84h64a12,12,0,0,0,0-24H48A20,20,0,0,0,28,80V208a20,20,0,0,0,20,20H176a20,20,0,0,0,20-20V140A12,12,0,0,0,184,128Z\"><\/path><\/svg><\/span><\/a>). The rollout will be completed this year, after which travelling with a payment card will be possible throughout the Netherlands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-geldopnames-na-jarenlange-daling-weer-omhoog\">Cash withdrawals rise after years of decline<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After years of steady decline, the number of cash withdrawals from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.geldmaat.nl\/\">ATMs <span class=\"icon inline-block ml-1 w-[0.875em]\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><svg aria-hidden=\"true\" xmlns=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/2000\/svg\" width=\"32\" height=\"32\" fill=\"#000000\" viewBox=\"0 0 256 256\"><path d=\"M228,104a12,12,0,0,1-24,0V69l-59.51,59.51a12,12,0,0,1-17-17L187,52H152a12,12,0,0,1,0-24h64a12,12,0,0,1,12,12Zm-44,24a12,12,0,0,0-12,12v64H52V84h64a12,12,0,0,0,0-24H48A20,20,0,0,0,28,80V208a20,20,0,0,0,20,20H176a20,20,0,0,0,20-20V140A12,12,0,0,0,184,128Z\"><\/path><\/svg><\/span><\/a> increased again in 2022, by 8% compared with the previous year. The total amount withdrawn rose by as much as 13% to more than \u20ac26 billion. Possible explanations include higher inflation and the end of coronavirus restrictions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-verdere-daling-van-acceptgiro-s\">Acceptgiro use declines further<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At the end of 2021, Currence announced that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.acceptgiro.nl\/\">Acceptgiro <span class=\"icon inline-block ml-1 w-[0.875em]\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><svg aria-hidden=\"true\" xmlns=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/2000\/svg\" width=\"32\" height=\"32\" fill=\"#000000\" viewBox=\"0 0 256 256\"><path d=\"M228,104a12,12,0,0,1-24,0V69l-59.51,59.51a12,12,0,0,1-17-17L187,52H152a12,12,0,0,1,0-24h64a12,12,0,0,1,12,12Zm-44,24a12,12,0,0,0-12,12v64H52V84h64a12,12,0,0,0,0-24H48A20,20,0,0,0,28,80V208a20,20,0,0,0,20,20H176a20,20,0,0,0,20-20V140A12,12,0,0,0,184,128Z\"><\/path><\/svg><\/span><\/a> would be discontinued permanently in the middle of this year.
