On Wednesday, April 15, the Dutch Payments Association organized the first online lunch session of 2026. With this new series of meetings, it aims to quickly update members on the most important developments in the Dutch payments sector. The lunch sessions are specifically intended for members who participate less actively in working groups, task forces, and other formal bodies.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

During this first session, the focus was on two topics that affect a broad group of members: the upcoming European regulations<\/a> surrounding PSD3 and the Payment Services Regulation (PSR), and the migration from iDEAL to Wero.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The explanation of PSD3 and PSR<\/a> provided insight into the further harmonization of European payments and the strengthening of consumer protection and open banking<\/a>. Niels Pranger (the Dutch Payments Association) discussed the current status of the legislation and the timelines. Most obligations are expected to take effect starting in 2028. In addition, new obligations were discussed in the areas of fraud prevention, supervision, and the position of non-bank payment service providers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the second presentation, Ivo Broeren (EPI Company) discussed the transition from iDEAL to Wero<\/a>. Wero offers a future-proof and scalable solution based on SEPA Instant, with additional functionalities such as subscriptions, event-driven payments, and purchase protection. Ivo emphasized the importance of a uniform European payment experience. He concluded his presentation with the Dutch implementation schedule.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The session was well attended, with over 120 participants at its peak. Participants were able to submit questions via the Q&A feature, which were addressed during the meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Dutch Payments Association will now organize these online lunch sessions twice a year, in the spring and fall. Participation in these meetings is by invitation only. With this series, the Dutch Payments Association remains committed to informing members in an accessible way and involving them in developments in the payments sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
