Chipknip would end on 31 December 2014. In early 2015, banks would refund the remaining Chipknip balances to their customers\u2019 payment accounts. Consumers were expected still to have money on their Chipknip after 1 January 2015. Currence, the owner of the Chipknip brand, and its licensees therefore decided to refund the remaining balances on Chipknip cards actively.<\/p>\n\n\n

Banks that had issued cards with Chipknip would automatically refund the remaining balances to their customers\u2019 payment accounts in 2015. Each bank would announce when it would make the refunds during the first quarter of 2015.
In exceptional cases, a remaining Chipknip balance could not be refunded automatically, for example because the corresponding account no longer existed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Customers who had received nothing after their bank\u2019s payment date in 2015, despite expecting a refund, could contact their bank. Any remaining balance not refunded automatically would remain available at the banks for refund requests from Chipknip cardholders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Refund it yourself before the end of the year<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Customers were advised to refund their Chipknip balance themselves before 1 January. This could still be done quickly and easily at any Chipknip loading point in 2014. Cardholders inserted the card, pressed 1 and reduced the balance to zero. The amount would reach their payment account within two working days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

End of Chipknip<\/em><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In a March 2013 press release, brand owner Currence announced that Chipknip would disappear as a payment method on 1 January 2015. Currence decided to discontinue Chipknip on the basis of market developments and after consulting market participants. This brought the Dutch electronic payment method to an end after 17 years.<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
