Never send your debit card by post or hand it to somebody else. Never enter your PIN on a website and always keep it secret. The same applies to credit cards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Many cardholders had recently received fake emails, text messages or letters, supposedly from their bank, claiming that they had to apply for a new debit or credit card. They were told to send their current card by post to a supposed recycling company. They were also asked to enter their PIN on a website that supposedly belonged to their bank, in order to apply for a new payment card with a new PIN. These fake messages contained links to fraudulent websites that closely resembled banks\u2019 websites.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dutch banks automatically provide a new debit card when the old card expires. You do not need to do anything. Once the new debit card has been received, the old card can be destroyed by cutting it in half through the chip and then disposing of it. Never send a debit card by post. Only enter your PIN at payment terminals, ATMs or the personal login device supplied by some banks, never on a website or web page.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Since April 2015, roughly 600 reports had been made of losses caused by this form of debit card phishing. Losses had reached approximately \u20ac1.7 million. Reports came from across the country and the victims were of all ages.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
