Fortunately, we can now occasionally meet in person again, rather than from our home offices via Teams, Webex or Zoom. It was wonderful to see so many of you in person at the Currence Beach Event, Future of Payments, Money20\/20 and one of our own events!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And of course, we were looking forward to welcoming everyone back to our traditional Annual Conference in November. I am therefore sorry that we had to decide to postpone the conference. Following Piet&#8217;s departure last year, there was still simply too much going on internally to put together a strong conference programme. But it is only postponed, not cancelled. In the new year we will organise an engaging Annual Conference, not least because we would also like to raise a glass with you to the Dutch Payments Association&#8217;s tenth anniversary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-intro-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">For now, please turn your attention to the new edition of our payments newsletter, Betaaljournaal. Now it is time for the next step, because our work is not yet done. The sketches follow the same format as the previous videos, but a little more explanation is needed to convey the message. During this period, Alert Online partners, including banks and the Dutch Payments Association, organise various activities under the Alert Online banner. Ahead of the darker days of the year, this helps draw employees&#8217; and customers&#8217; attention to cybersecurity. This year&#8217;s Alert Online theme is: Get started! The aim is to go a step beyond raising cyber awareness and actually take action. Around 12% of all purchases were made online in the second quarter. As in Q1, this was significantly higher than in the same period last year. The third quarter will show whether the share of online shopping remains this high now that physical shops have fully reopened. Other interested parties are welcome to attend, subject to availability in the auditorium at the Crowne Plaza hotel in Amsterdam&#8217;s Zuidas district. There will be an opportunity to ask questions afterwards, followed by drinks hosted by the Dutch Payments Association.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Zimmermann is Associate Professor Emeritus of Cyber Security at Delft University of Technology. He created the widely used open-source PGP encryption standard (<em>Pretty Good Privacy<\/em>) in 1991 for secure and confidential email. Zimmermann has received numerous technical and humanitarian awards for his pioneering work in cryptography.
