In March, more than 100 million payments were made by smartphone at physical points of sale in the Netherlands in a single month for the first time. Some 23% of all debit card payments are now made without a physical debit card, predominantly using mobile phones\u2014almost one in four. Nine out of ten debit card payments are now contactless.<\/p>\n\n\n

Last month, 439 million debit card payments <\/path><\/svg><\/span><\/a> were made at Dutch points of sale, with a total value of \u20ac11.5 billion. The number of transactions was 34% higher than in March 2021 and 17% higher than in March 2019, the last March without COVID-19 restrictions before the start of the pandemic. The value of debit card payments in March was 28% higher than a year earlier and 22% higher than in 2019.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
