On 18 June, some 150 interested parties participated in the online workshop ‘Exploring Fighting Cryptofraud’ of theNewPayments Fraud Forum (NPFF), in cooperation with the Payments Association, the Volksbank and the VBNL (Verenigde Bitcoinbedrijven Nederland). The main aim of the workshop was to strengthen ties between cryptovaluta companies and banks for the purpose of fraud prevention. The participants were mainly product managers, risk managers and fraud experts from banks and cryptocurrency companies.

Senior compliance officer Mauro Halve of Amdax and CEO Jos Lazet of Blockrise gave an overview of various types of fraud in which cryptocurrencies can play a role, such as recovery scams and boiler room, help desk, dating and back pull fraud. They also covered laws and regulations for cryptocurrency companies.
The workshop concluded by answering some questions:
- With transaction monitoring, what can cryptovaluta companies see and not see?
- In this regard, what are ‘red flags’ and how do they deal with them?
- What registries can they access?
- How can we optimise the processes between banks and cryptocurrency companies?
