Roadmap 2021–2023

The Dutch Payments Association’s annual roadmap has been published. It focuses on the main themes and priorities for payments over the next three years.

The Dutch Payments Association regards the roadmap as a guide that charts the course for its future activities and as the basis for its annual plans, which set out specific actions in greater detail.

The Dutch Payments Association remains committed to efficient, secure, reliable and accessible payments. Dutch payments are shaped to a large extent by international developments. The Roadmap explains how the Digital Finance Package will affect these themes in the years ahead.

The Roadmap also addresses Central Bank Digital Currency(opens in new window) (CBDC) as a possible substitute for cash, the European Payments Initiative (EPI) for a pan-European payment solution, tokenisation to make payments easier and less susceptible to misuse in more situations and across channels, the reassessment of the use of cash, concerns about the pricing of payment infrastructure, the advance of EMV contactless payments in public transport, and the European standard for the automated, uniform exchange of data in Request to Pay.
