Collective tasks in payment transactions are brought together in the Dutch Payments Association

Payment services are different from most other services: everyone has to deal with them and they are the bloodstream of our economy. That is why payment services seem to be a utility. But just like most other things, payment services are not free. There are high costs involved and they have to be paid for.

Payment transactions are based on an infrastructure chain generated by a large number of different payment service providers. The safety, efficiency, reliability and accessibility of the payment system as a whole are of vital social importance. This requires more than just the efforts of each individual party; the parties must cooperate and coordinate with each other.
The societal role of the payment system therefore requires a platform where the payment sector and stakeholders can meet each other and enter into a dialogue about expectations, bottlenecks and developments.
The necessary cooperation in the Dutch payments system and the dialogue with society form the basis of the Dutch Payments Association of the Netherlands.

The Netherlands in Europe
Standards and technical agreements are very important for the proper functioning of the payment system. These matters are often regulated at European or even global level. The Dutch Payments Association coordinates the sector's alignment with these agreements and represents the interests of the Dutch community.
