Secure iDIN login for public services from 2017

iDIN, the Dutch banks’ shared online identification and login service(opens in new window) , is already available to businesses and organisations that provide online services.

In a letter to the Dutch House of Representatives, Minister Plasterk states that the Dutch Tax and Customs Administration and several healthcare organisations will start offering new, secure login methods during 2017, including iDIN. Citizens will then be able to log in using an app, an identity document or their own bank’s familiar login method. These new login methods will later also become available for all other online government services. iDIN is already being used by various private companies and organisations.

Easy login

The Dutch government wants people to be able to log in to public services easily and securely. The new login methods provide greater certainty about someone’s identity, making login more secure and identity fraud more difficult. Offering several ways to log in also means that people and organisations no longer depend on a single login method and are less vulnerable to system disruptions.
